Nothing will launch its Phone (3a) lineup of devices on March 4th. But ahead of the event, the company asked the popular YouTube Macrus Brownless (MKBHD) about his dream smartphone and also shared the total cost of making the smartphone.
MKBHD’s dream smartphone costs way more than you can think!
MKBHD, responding to Nothing’s question, detailed the hardware specifications of his dream smartphone. YouTube says that the phone should have a display of Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra but in a 6.1-inch size. It has a QHD+ resolution panel with a 120Hz high refresh rate, 2600-nits of peak brightness and anti-glare coating. The cost of the display is said to be around $35 (Rs 3,000).
The YouTuber also says that his dream phone should have a 6,000mAh battery with 65W wired and 15W wireless charging support. This battery and charging combination would cost $13 (Rs 1,200). In terms of cameras, MKBHD says that the device should have Galaxy S24 Ultra’s hardware with the software processing from iPhone 16 Pro Max. The selfie shooter should be of Pixel 9 Pro’s 50-megapixel lens. The camera combination would cost $80 (Rs 7,000).
The dream phone is also said to feature a 16GB LPDDR5x RAM with 1TB UFS 4.0 storage, which would cost $90 (Rs 7,800). The chipset, per YouTube, should have a performance comparable to the Apple A18 Pro SoC. This would cost $190 (Rs 16,500). Additional components such as motherboard, haptic motor, frame, panel etc. would cost around $92 (Rs 8,000).
If we count all these figures, the total cost would come down to $500 (Rs 43,400). However, the company says that this is not the final cost that the company pays while making a device. The final cost includes a lot of things like research and development, software and its maintenance charges etc. If we add this as well, the total cost would come close to $23.5 million. This is outrageous!
