India’s Made-in-India Generative AI Model Coming This Year
Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Ashwini Vaishnaw, revealed during a press conference that India’s indigenous AI model will be ready within 10 months, suggesting a release before 2026. This model will be hosted on Indian servers, ensuring data sovereignty and security.
To support this initiative, the Indian government has identified 10 companies that will provide 18,693 graphics processing units (GPUs), high-end chips essential for developing machine learning tools and foundational AI models.
Currently, six major developers are working on India’s AI model. In addition, the government will soon launch a common compute facility, enabling startups and researchers to access high-performance computing power.
