Apple is reportedly working on a live translation feature for AirPods that will enhance the user’s experience as well as allow users to communicate in their preferable languages, making it easier to understand without any barrier. The feature is likely to be introduced with iOS 19 which can be accessible easily via the Translate app on iPhone and iPad. Here’s everything you need to know.

Apple AirPods may soon get a live translation feature with iOS 19

Apple Inc. is reportedly working on a new feature called live translation that will be available on Apple AirPods. As per the Gurman report (via Bloomberg), the feature allows the earbuds to live translate the conversation into another language within a call. This will make the user’s experience better especially with the new translation feature on the AirPods.

This means that conversations between people speaking different languages will be automatically translated in real-time. As per the report, the feature will be available for users publicly with the iOS 19 update for iPhones that is expected to be unveiled at the annual WWDC in June. Although users can access the live translation feature with the Translate app that is available on iPhone which was launched back in 2020.

According to the report, the paired AirPods will be able to translate conversations in real time. If someone speaks Spanish, the iPhone will detect it, translate it into English, and play it through the AirPods. The person who wears AirPods can respond in their own language, and the iPhone will translate it back into Spanish through its speaker. While the iPhone’s Translate app already allows this, adding the feature to AirPods would make it easier for conversations during calls.

Although Gurman doesn’t mention which AirPods model will be getting the first live translation feature yet. Maybe, the latest models will be the first ones who’ll get to access this feature and later it will be available for other models. However, this feature isn’t entirely new. Google introduced live translations on the first-generation Pixel Buds years ago, and Samsung’s Galaxy Buds 3 and Buds 3 Pro offer a similar interpreter mode.
