Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 series is anticipated to launch around September 2025, and this time, a new slim model believed to be the iPhone 17 Air is expected to make its debut. According to recent leaks, the iPhone 17 Air could measure just 5.5mm in thickness, making it one of the thinnest iPhones yet.
Portless iPhone Plans
In his latest newsletter, Mark Gurman revealed that Apple initially planned to release the iPhone 17 Air without a USB Type-C port, but the decision was ultimately reversed. However, the idea of a portless iPhone remains a part of Apple’s long-term vision.
The report suggests that Apple is using the iPhone 17 Air to test consumer demand for slimmer devices. If successful, this could pave the way for Apple to launch more iPhones without charging ports in the future relying entirely on wireless charging and MagSafe technology.
iPhone 17 Ultra: The New ‘Pro Max’?
In addition to the iPhone 17 Air, a new iPhone 17 Ultra model is reportedly in development. According to South Korean blog Naver, citing supply chain sources, the iPhone 17 Ultra is expected to replace the Pro Max model in Apple’s 2025 lineup.
The iPhone 17 Ultra could feature a smaller Dynamic Island, offering more screen real estate. The device may come equipped with a vapour chamber cooling system to improve heat dissipation during intensive tasks. To support a larger battery, the iPhone 17 Ultra is also expected to have a slightly thicker body compared to other models.
