Nintendo has officially announced the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 at the Nintendo Direct event which was held on April 2nd. The company has officially confirmed the release timeline and pricing of the Nintendo Switch 2. It will come as the successor to the Nintendo Switch which was launched 8 years ago. This time, the company will bring the Switch 2 with major upgrades including a larger and brighter display and an improved Joy-Con controller. Here’s everything you need to know.
Nintendo Switch 2: pricing and release date details
- The Nintendo Switch 2 will be available at a starting price of $449.99 (around Rs 38,500).
- A special Mario Kart World bundle will also be available for $499.99 (around Rs 43,000).
The Nintendo Switch 2 will release on June 5th 2025 and the pre-order starts as early as April 8th in Europe and 9th April for North America. The device will come with a lot of features compared to its predecessor.
Nintendo Switch 2 specifications and features
The Nintendo Switch 2 will ship with a 7.9-inch LCD display along with HDR support, 1080p resolution, and a refresh rate of up to 120fps with variable refresh rate. The Switch 2 also comes with an improved Joy-Con controller in a larger way and it will be magnetically attached to the console. In addition, the controller can function like a mouse but only with compatible games.
There’s a new ‘C’ button located on the right side on the Joy-Con controller below the home button. It will allow access to GameChat which is mainly a new communication feature. Plus, the company has introduced the Nintendo Switch 2 Camera, a specialized accessory designed to sit next to a Smart TV. This device enables users to engage in video chats through the GameChat feature.
Moreover, there’s an another feature called GameShare that lets a single game player to share a game with up to three other consoles including both orginal Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. In addition, it supports online play and game chat as well. The first supported titles include Super Mario Odyssey and Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker. The company is also releasing a GameCube controller for the Nintendo Switch 2 which be exclusively available to Nintendo Switch online subscribers.
