In a significant step towards enhancing digital identity verification, the Indian government has unveiled a new Aadhaar app designed to streamline how citizens share and authenticate their identity. The announcement was made by Minister of Electronics and IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, during the Aadhaar Samvaad event held in Delhi.
New Aadhaar App Launched: Features and Availability
The new app, developed by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), comes with a modern, redesigned interface and introduces new features like:
- Face Recognition Authentication: Users can verify their identity using Face ID, adding an extra layer of security and convenience.
- QR Code Scanning: Instead of sharing a physical card or photocopy, users can scan a QR code displayed by a requesting entity (like a hotel or airport) and complete verification using their smartphone and facial scan.
- Enhanced Privacy: Users can share only the necessary details with their explicit consent, giving them more control over their personal information compared to sharing a full photocopy of their Aadhaar.
The app is currently in closed testing and is being tried out by a select group of users. It will be rolled out to the public in phases after comprehensive testing is complete.
