AI-generative features for Apple’s product lineup, particularly the coveted iPhone series, have not yet been announced. Conversely, Google has been making significant investments in AI technologies, such as Gemini AI in the Pixel line. In addition, Samsung is anticipated to release a number of AI capabilities for the Galaxy S24 series, which debuts on January 17. However, it appears that Apple plans to add a few more AI-focused features to the iPhone lineup this year.
In his “Power On” newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman speculates that Apple may reveal generative AI-based capabilities for its products at WWDC 2024, which is usually held in June. Let’s examine Apple’s ambitions for the coming year, 2024.
Apple’s Generative AI Features for iPhone at WWDC 2024
According to Gurman Apple intends to provide a number of generative AI-based capabilities for the iPhone and other devices in 2024, marking a significant advancement in AI. According to a Bloomberg story, Apple will release these capabilities together with the iOS 18 upgrade. Apple is reportedly planning to roll out a number of AI-powered services, including AI integration with Apple Music, auto-summary, and auto-complete for apps. It is also rumored that the corporation will launch new developer tools powered by AI.
Gurman adds that since early 2023, Apple has been developing Ajax, a proprietary Large Language Model (LLM). The primary goal of the LLM’s development is to provide AI capabilities to Macs and iPhones and to smoothly incorporate AI into its services, which include Siri, Apple Music, core apps, and more. But considering Cupertino’s careful approach to releasing new technologies, it is not surprising that Apple would decide to roll out the features gradually.
Gurman also thinks that Apple won’t make all of its announcements this year because the company will scale out its AI ambition by 2025.
In addition to AI development, Gurman has laid out Apple’s product strategy, which begins with the highly anticipated release of the Apple Vision Pro in February. He adds that the new iPad Pros with OLED screens, M3 SoC, and other features will be released sometime in March, right after the release of the mixed reality headset. In March, Apple may also release the larger 12.9-inch iPad Air.
The business is anticipated to release watchOS 11, tvOS 18, iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS 15, and visionOS 2 in June. Gurman further asserts that in the first half of 2024, Apple may release an improved Apple TV 4K with a new processor.
