Apple has released the iPhone 15 series both internationally and in India. On the other hand, a number of leaks and rumors concerning the upcoming iPhones are already making the rounds online. A recent claim suggests that the tech giant may replace the Dynamic Island with a new iPhone model that features an under-display camera after 2026.
It is important to note that Dynamic Island was added to all iPhone 15 models after first appearing on the iPhone 14 Pro devices. This feature consists of an area the size of a pill that sits above the screen on iPhones to house the Face ID camera. The space can be used to show content in addition to being used for Face ID features.
Apple iPhone under-display camera details
- The LG Group’s electrical component manufacturer, LG Innotek, is purportedly far along in the development of an under-panel camera (UPC) system, according to a report published in The Elec.
- The UPC system, in contrast to current selfie cameras, seeks to solve a major technological challenge: inadequate light transmission.
- Less light can often enter the display area of under-display cameras, which limits the amount of information that can reach the camera’s lens and sensor and produces lower-quality photos.
- The “freeform optic” lens technology used in LG Innotek’s solution is expected to solve the problems with under-display cameras.
- Since 2021, the business has submitted patents pertaining to several aspects of this freeform optic technology, including the camera module, mobile terminal, and optical system.
- The source emphasizes that it’s possible that iPhone models with under-display cameras won’t be formally released until after 2026.
It is important to note that Apple will not be the first to include an under-display camera into one of its phones. Low-resolution selfie cameras are already present in Chinese smartphones like the ZTE Axon 30 5G and Xiaomi Mi Mix 4, which were both released in 2021, as well as Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 5. These cameras are positioned beneath the display.
