Google seems to be doing a major policy change for its Android operating system. The company recently revisited its minimum system requirements policy for Android and updated it for Android 15. And now, the firm has eliminated the support of security patches for Android 12 and 12L.
Android 12 and 12L will no longer get security patches
Part of its monthly security patches rollout, Google has started pushing the latest April 2025 security patch update for Android. These patches are meant to fix security loopholes and to improve overall privacy of the system.
The latest patch brings a fix to several important and vulnerable security issues in Android 13, 14 and 15. However, there’s no mention of Android 12 and 12L in the bulletin. The mention of it was there in the March patch.
To add to this, Android Authority has published a report claiming that Google has stopped the support for Android 12 and 12L on March 31, 2025. Therefore, the March patch will remain the last patch ever rolled out for the said Android versions.
