- Google had recently pushed an OTA update to its EOL marked Pixel 4a device.
- The update was meant to improve the battery life of the gadget.
- However it did the complete opposite and the device is now being recalled.
It’s been around four years since Google launched its Pixel 4a device globally. The device has been marked EOL (End-of-life) for the software support. However, a recent update has caused a surge in the number of users reporting battery overheating issues. And now the Google Pixel 4a device is being recalled in Australia.
Google Pixel 4a device is being recalled due to potential battery concerns
Despite being the device marked EOL, Google rolled out an OTA update to the Pixel 4a device earlier this year. The update was meant to improve the battery life of the smartphone. However, what happened in reality was exactly opposite. The update caused many devices to overheat, increasing a risk of potential battery safety.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has taken the view of the matter and has released a public announcement ordering a mass-recall of the device. The Commission has stated that ‘an overheating battery could pose a risk of fire/or burns to a user’. Users are advised to check for the issue and are also provided with an option to claim appeasement from the company.
