Now, it seems Instagram is looking to take advantage of this situation. They are reportedly planning to develop a new app dedicated to Reels.
Instagram is working on a new app for Reels
Instagram head Adam Mosseri has reportedly informed staff this week that a standalone app for Reels is being considered. While this opens up the possibility of Reels evolving into its separate platform, it’s still unclear whether Instagram will keep the Reels feature within its main app or eventually phase it out in favour of the new standalone version.
If they announce the new app, it could benefit the platform as existing users of other short-video platforms may switch to Reels. Reels are already quite popular worldwide and it would be interesting to see how this decision benefits them.
