OnePlus launched its first foldable device, the OnePlus Open smartphone, last year. The device quickly gained popularity, especially in markets like India. Now that some time has passed since its launch, there have been many rumours about the upcoming Open 2 device. However, it has been reported that the brand has decided not to move forward with its launch.
No OnePlus Open will launch this year: here’s why
OnePlus has confirmed officially in one of its community posts that the company has decided not to launch a foldable smartphone this year. Mr Vale, an official who wrote the community post says that the brand believes in “setting new benchmarks and challenging status quo across all product categories.”
The official also suggested that fans should pay attention to the upcoming OPPO’s foldable smartphone. He adds that “OPPO will take the lead in foldable category while OnePlus will remain committed to developing products that will refine multiple categories.”
To assure the fans, he confirms that this drop in the plan doesn’t mean the departure of the brand from the foldable category. OnePlus will be adding the OPPO’s breakthrough in the foldable category in future products, read the community post.
