OnePlus launched its flagship OnePlus 13 and 13R in India and globally with four years of Android updates and six years of security patches. However, a report recently claimed that OnePlus will count the software out of the box for the OnePlus 13 series, this means they will provide the update till Android 18 only. This is unexpected especially from a premium flagship smartphone lineup. However, the brand has now cleared the confusion by revealing a ‘OS upgrade’ policy. Here’s everything you need to know.
OnePlus announced ‘OS Upgrade’ policy for 13 series
The OnePlus 13 and 13R launched with the Android 15 out of the box based on the OxygenOS 15. Previously, the Droid Life’s report (now updated) that OnePlus’s North America PR team told them the out-of-the-box software is a part of the four year promise update. It means, they will only provide 3 years of Android updates excluding Android 15 out-of-the-box software.
This creates much confusion between OnePlus users whether they’ll get four years of Android updates or not. But, thanks to OnePlus, they’ve confirmed that they will give four years of Android updates and six years of security patch updates on their flagship devices. This means, the device will get Android 16, 17, 18, and 19, plus the security patch updates. They have cleared this thing by posting a ‘OS Upgrade’ policy of 13 series on X (formerly Twitter).
OnePlus Watch 2, Watch 3 update policy
The publication has a statement on the update policies of OnePlus watch 2 and watch 3. As per the email Droid Life received, the OnePlus Watch 2 and 3 will get three years of software updates. The Watch 2 comes with the WearOS 4, which means the watch will get WearOS 5 and WearOS 6 update. Plus, the watch will get three years of quarterly security updates from 2024 till 2026.
Talking about the Watch 3, the watch comes with WearOS 5 and it will get WearOS 6 and WearOS 7. Plus, there will be additional three years of security updates from 2025 till 2027. So, the brand only considers out-of-the-box software as an update for the OnePlus Watch series but not the OnePlus 13 series.
