In order to align with the upcoming PC experiences, Qualcomm Technologies has unveiled a brand-new naming architecture for its platform called the “Snapdragon X series.” According to the manufacturer, the year 2024 will mark a turning point for the PC market, and the Snapdragon X compute platform will “deliver next-level performance, AI, connectivity, and battery life.” Recall that the chip manufacturer unveiled the Snapdragon 8cx chipset for Windows on ARM smartphones back in 2018.
The naming architecture of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X series
According to Qualcomm, the new Snapdragon X series naming architecture was unveiled as a result of in-depth examination, customer research, ideation, and input from the PC ecosystem. “Based on the insights we gathered, we’ve come up with this new naming convention and new visual design system.”
In contrast to previous Snapdragon product groups, PC platforms are identified by the New X code. The Snapdragon X-series is allegedly given a cosmetic refresh with new logos and platform badges.
The Snapdragon X name is also used for modems, according to Qualcomm. for example, the Snapdragon X72 and X75. The company promises a “clear, simplified tiering structure, which will help users navigate our platform capabilities from mainstream to premium.” The same can be said for mobile chipsets, GPUs, and PC processors.
It appears that the rebranding was done in advance of the introduction of the new Oryon-based chipsets. This will also signal a shift from Snapdragon processors using solely CPU cores made by ARM to Snapdragon SoCs employing Qualcomm’s own core. This is for the family’s branch of Windows on ARM.
