Qualcomm announces 8-years of Android updates support for Snapdragon 8 Elite and above SoCs

Qualcomm has announced that the Snapdragon 8 series chipset will now support upto 8 years of consecutive updated. Android OEMs have been levelling up their update game by promising as much as 6 or 7 years of software update for its devices. Now, we will be able to see upto 8 years of software support of the upcoming Android devices.

Qualcomm announces 8-years of Android software support

Qualcomm has partnered with Google and has announced a major change in its update policy. The new policy enables the manufacturers to provide upto 8 years of consecutive software update to its devices.

In the new policy, Qualcomm has announced a revamped support package which includes: eight consecutive years of Android upgrades, eight years of security patches and two upgrades to the Android Common Kernel (ACK). The new change will be applicable to the devices powered by Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. Qualcomm has also assured that the upcoming 8-series and 7-series chipsets will have the support of new update policy.

“Qualcomm Technologies is excited to take this step forward, working closely with Google to facilitate the latest Android OS upgrades on devices with Snapdragon,” said Chris Patrick, Senior Vice President and General Manager of mobile handsets at Qualcomm Technologies.
