The chipset used in the majority of future Android flagship devices has finally been made public. Recently, Qualcomm unveiled its Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, placing a strong emphasis on gaming and generative AI technology. Its manufacturer refers to it as the “Titan of on-device intelligence.” Here is all the information you require.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will come with Xiaomi 14 series, iQOO 12, OnePlus 12, Samsung Galaxy S24 series, Vivo X100 series, Asus ROG series, Realme, Motorola & Red Magic Flagship devices.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3  specifications

  • The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is based on a 4nm process, as opposed to the Apple A17 Pro, which uses a more sophisticated 3nm process. 
  • In terms of performance, the CPU, with a peak clock speed of 3.3 GHz in its prime core, is 30% more powerful than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and 20% more efficient. 
  • The GPU, on the other hand, offers 25% better performance, 25% better power efficiency, and 40% better Ray Tracing which also leads to up to 10 per cent overall power savings.
  • It supports Bluetooth 5.4, Wi-Fi 7 (5.8Gbps), LPDD5X RAM, and a USB 3.1 Gen 2 port up to a certain extent.
  • The new Snapdragon X75 modem supports up to 10Gbps downlink and up to 3.5Gbps uplink speeds and is 5G advanced-ready. It also supports 5G mmWave/sub-6Ghz/SA/NSA.
  • Up to 8K/30FPS HDR or 4K/120FPS video recording, up to 200MP image capture, and Real-time Semantic Segmentation photo and video processing (up to 12 layers) are all supported by Qualcomm Spectra ISP. The HDR video recording formats Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+, and HLG are all supported.
  • The chipset supports 24-bit, 96-kHz lossless music for audio technologies. The Qualcomm chipset not only supports spatial audio with head tracking but also a number of its own codecs and suites.
  • Additionally, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 supports up to 8K/30Hz external displays and on-device screens at up to 4K/60Hz or QHD+/144Hz. It supports the majority of HDR formats, including Dolby Vision and HDR10+, as well as LTPO screens with variable refresh rates.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for AI and gaming Features 

The “Generative AI powerhouse” Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 can generate up to 20 tokens per second while running up to 10 billion parameters on the device. Additionally, the Qualcomm Hexagon NPU is a staggering 98% quicker and 40% more efficient than its forerunner.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is the first to offer multi-modal generative AI models and speculative decoding according to Qualcomm AI Stack. Additionally, it has a memory bandwidth that can reach 4.8GHz and 77 Gbps. On the chipset, it also includes functions for video object erasers, night vision, video bokeh, Dolby HDR photo capture, and photo expansion. 

The first for a Snapdragon chipset, “state-of-the-art real-time global illumination and reflections” are made possible by Unreal Engine 5 integration with the Lumen lighting system. On-device gaming at 240FPS and up to 8K external display resolution are both supported. Additionally, 240Hz to 1Hz QSYNC and Adreno Frame Motion Engine 2.0 support is offered.
