Sony is expected to launch the PlayStation 6 sooner than expected. The PlayStation 6 was launched back in the year 2020 and now its successor is rumoured to debut in 2027, 6 years later. Even though there’s plenty of time before we arrive at the launch timeline, the specifications of it have been leaked.

According to a leak coming from Kepler_L2, made on NeoGAF forums, Sony has finalized the design of the system-on-chip of PlayStation 6. The AO tapeout is scheduled for later this year. If you are unaware of the term “tape out” it means the final stage of designing before the product (chipset here) is sent for manufacturing.
And if we look at Sony’s record, the products are usually released two years after tape out. This means that if the latest leak is true, then we can expect the PlayStation 6 to be launched in the year 2027.
Moreover, the PlayStation 6 is tipped to feature a semi-custom APU from AMD. It can be a combination of the Zen 5 CPU along the UDNA GPU (or RDNA 5). The Zen 5 CPU will be significantly more powerful than the Zen 2 CPU found on PS 5, as it features a total of 8 cores and 16 threads.
