Tesla, the electric car company founded by Elon Musk, is reportedly moving forward with its plans to enter the Indian market soon. While the official announcement is still unknown, reports suggest that the company has identified locations for its upcoming showrooms in India that are said to open their first showroom in Mumbai and second in Delhi. However, the brand has not given any information regarding the launch timeline or when these showrooms will open in India.
Tesla to open its first showroom starting with Mumbai and Delhi
According to Times of India report, the brand, Tesla by Elon Musk is ready to open its first showroom in India starting with Mumbai and Delhi. As per reports, the first Tesla showroom is expected in Mumbai’s Bandra-Kurla complex (BKC). However, the US based electric vehicle maker is expected to occupy a 4,000 square feet space on the ground floor for a commercial tower at Mumbai’s BKC.
The monthly rent for the space is around Rs 900 per square feet which is something around ₹35 lakhs. The report also states that Tesla has secured the lease for approximately five years. Plus, the report says that the company will launch its second showroom in Delhi after Mumbai BKC. The showroom will be located in the Delhi Aerocity complex.
Although the brand hasn’t confirmed anything about the company’s Delhi showroom yet. Interestingly, this comes close to two weeks after Elon Musk’s meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the latter’s visit to the US. Following the meeting, Tesla initially listed 13 job openings in India. But recently, a quick search on LinkedIn shows around 17 listings, indicating Tesla’s plan to enter the Indian automobile market soon.
