Donald Trump, the newly sworn President of the United States of America, had recently announced reciprocal tariff on the other nations worldwide. Due to the high tariff, Apple is trying to shift its major production to India. But this tariff is going to hit another tech brand, TSMC. Let’s see how.
Trump says he wants TSMC to build locally in the US or face upto a 100% tariff
As per the recent report by Reuters, Trump made an assertive remark at the Republican National Congressional Committee event. In the remark, he criticised the government grants given to foreign chipmakers.
In the event, the President revealed that he had warned the Taiwanese semiconductor manufacturing company TSMC of a tariff. He said that he warned the chipmaker to either establish its manufacturing units locally in the United States or face a whopping potential tax of upto 100%.
Responding to which, the officials of Taiwan said that “We have already initiated the discussions with Washington to resolve the matter diplomatically”. The country has proposed zero tariffs, more investment and procurement in the US as a base for this talk.
