Joker: Folie à Deux (Release Date: October 4, 2024)

What we know: After the critical and box office success of joker it was inevitable that a sequel will be released. Joaquin Phoenix is back as the Joker in “Joker: Folie à Deux” alongside Zazie Beetz and a new cast including Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, and Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn which is said to be a sinister version of the character. This sequel takes a surprising turn as a musical but promises to keep the dark feel of the first film. This movie takes place in DC’s Elseworlds meaning this joker won’t be a part of the main DC Universe timeline.

Superman (Release Date: July 11, 2025)

What we know: Superman: Legacy will be the first project of the new DC Universe. The new Superman movie skips the beginning story and jumps right into action. Clark Kent is already Superman, working as a reporter and living a normal life. The movie will show him figuring out how to be both an alien and a regular guy. Written and directed by James Gunn himself. Gunn also claims this Superman debuting in legacy will be the one featured in subsequent DC Studios films, TV shows, games, and animated projects. 

The Batman Part II (Release Date: October 2, 2026)

What we know: As of now there is no information available other than Matt Reeves (director of The Batman) statement that he and Robert Pattison will return with a new chapter of the batman. There are some speculations that this movie might be based on DC Comics’ No Man’s Land storyline, which sees Gotham City become a battlefield in the wake of a catastrophic earthquake.

Just like the Joker movie, The Batman does not exist in the main DC Universe timeline, rather it’s a part of DC ElseWorld Project. There will be a trilogy for The Batman.

Watchmen (Animated Movie, Release Date: TBA)

What we know: Watchmen gets a new animated adaptation, tackling grown-up themes in a dark world, the first one being a live action movie directed by Zack Snyder. According to Collider, the new watchmen movie will be rated R. The movie will adapt the original twelve issues between September 1986 and October 1987.

Justice League: Crisis On Infinite Earths Part 2 & 3 (DC Animated Universe, Release Date: 2024)

What we know: It is a three-part animated movie based on a famous DC comic book event “Crisis on Infinite Earths”. The first part came out in January 2024, the second part in April 2024, and the third part is coming out sometime this year (2024). It’s a big story about different realities and the Justice League battling across multiple dimensions to save existence itself.

Batman Azteca: Choque De Imperios (Animated Movie, Release Date: TBA)

What we know: DC is releasing a new animated movie, Batman Azteca: Choque De Imperios (Clash of Empires in English), that is a fresh take on the classic Dark Knight story. This movie will reimagine Bruce Wayne as Yohualli Coatl, a young Aztec man who witnesses his father’s murder by Spanish conquistadors. Fueled by vengeance, Yohualli takes on a new persona to fight for justice. The first official image for the animated Batman movie has been revealed.The exact release date is TBA, but it’s expected sometime in 2024.

The Authority (Main DC Universe Timeline, Release Date: TBA)

What we know: The Authority is a group of powerful and morally complex individuals who take on global threats that traditional superheroes can’t handle. They often use extreme methods to get their job done. It seems we can expect some inspiration taken from The Boys series on Amazon Prime. This movie will be a part of DCU’s Chapter 1, titled Gods and Monsters. Gunn has confirmed that The Authority team would have connections to the DCU’s new Superman, who’s set to debut in 2025’s Superman.

The Brave And The Bold (Main DC Universe Timeline, Release Date: TBA)

What we know: This movie will be a part of the Main DC Universe Timeline. Based on writer Grant Morrison’s Batman and Batman Inc. stories, this Chapter One project will introduce the DCU’s Batman and his son, Damian Wayne. Since Damian is the fifth Robin, it is highly possible that its predecessors may appear in this movie. But there hasn’t been much more news about the development of the project since Gunn’s January 2023 announcement.

Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow (Main DC Universe Timeline, Release Date: TBA)

What we know: This movie was announced by James Gunn in January 2023, still no release date has been set. This movie will be  Focusing on Kara Zor-El (Superman’s cousin), Unlike Superman, Kara witnessed tragedy on Krypton before arriving on Earth. Gunn promised a very different take on Supergirl that she will be a much more formidable force compared to her previous adaptations. Milly Alcock, an actress from House of the Dragon, has been confirmed to play Supergirl!

Swamp Thing (Main DC Universe Timeline, Release Date: TBA

What we know: This horror film will delve into the dark origins of Swamp Thing, inspired by a classic Alan Moore comic book story. As described in Warner Bros. This movie is expected to be a part of the main DC universe timeline. Though some rumors suggest Director James Mangold might make this a one-off movie, separate from the bigger DC Universe storyline. This could be the beginning of a darker corner in the DC Universe, featuring more mature and horror-themed stories.
