Vodafone Idea 5G services in India
Vodafone Idea chief executive Akshaya Moondra said via ETTelecom to investors during thief-quarter earnings call on Tuesday, Vodafone Idea plans to launch its 5G services in 6-7 months, by which time it also expects to have more clarity around monetization of 5G plans.
The new technologies in question include implementing vRAN and ORAN. Akshaya also adds that the Vodafone Idea is the only loss making private telecom operator in the country.
Akshaya also declined to give an update on Vodafone Idea long-due funding talks, and due to loss making Vodafone Idea has been struggling to raise funds for more than three years now. Vodafone Idea needs a large capital to quickly pay its dues to the government, large vendors like Indus Towers to expand its 4 G coverage and roll out its pending 5G network, arrest heavy customer losses and compete with its competitors Jio & Airtel.
Vodafone Idea has shut down 3G services in Maharashtra, Gujrat, Andhra Pradesh, Mumbai, Kolkata, and will phase out the services in other circles amid falling 3G devices on its network.
