For more than ten years, Xiaomi has powered all of its smartphones with MIUI. The latest MIUI 14 was hailed as the greatest and lightest version to date, demonstrating the company’s rapid advancements. Even so, at least in China, it featured some very cool features.
But Xiaomi has now unveiled HyperOS, a new operating system that is almost MIUI’s death knell. HyperOS is said to offer the industry’s smallest firmware size along with enhanced multitasking, security, and performance.
The gist of the new HyperOS
Xiaomi went into great depth on HyperOS, but we’ll save you the details. To begin with, the user interface has been modified. With new themes, fonts, and widgets, the lockscreen customization choices are greatly increased. Compared to the MIUI 14, the control center has been improved and appears more simplified. On the other hand, HyperOS’s app icons resemble those of MIUI 14.
Security and firmware size
Additionally, Xiaomi incorporated other security features, such as the TEE security system, which it created on its own and separates and handles sensitive content. It provides granular control over internet rights and full visibility into each and every connection.
As per Xiaomi, the firmware size of HyperOS can be adjusted to suit varying hardware requirements. Remarkably, the mobile phone firmware is the smallest in the business at just 8.75GB.
AI features
Xiaoai Input Assistant for text generation, WPS Document Scanning for word recognition in documents, AI Wonderful Painting for turning doodles into paintings, and AI Image Search for simple image retrieval are just a few of the HyperOS capabilities that are powered by an integrated AI big model. Furthermore, the device-cloud integration is more tightly integrated.
Cross-device collaboration
Notably, the new operating system allows apps to utilize the hardware of numerous devices with seamless cross-device collaboration. For instance, Camera Collaboration enables you to use the rear camera on your phone to capture higher-quality video during a PC video conference.
By enabling devices to utilize a phone’s 5G network for dependable and quick connections, network collaboration increases connectivity. Additionally, you may exchange notifications between devices with Cross-Device Focus Notification, so you can, for example, view the taxi information on your TV from your phone.
Performance
It appears that HyperOS is the biggest operating system update Xiaomi has ever released. Improved memory management is one aspect of this shift that results in noticeably quicker startup times and better background app performance.
The file system has been tuned to keep I/O performance constant over time. Real-time blurring is introduced by the graphics subsystem to provide smoother motion effects.
When will your phones be able to run HyperOS?
According to Xiaomi, the official HyperOS distribution for Chinese models will start in December 2023, while international models will get it in the first quarter of 2024. The Redmi K60 Extreme Edition, Xiaomi Pad 6 Max, and Xiaomi 14 series will be the first gadgets to run the new OS.
