Earlier this year, WhatsApp was observed testing a feature that let users select a username for their account. Although there hasn’t been any news about it in a few months, WhatsApp is still testing it because the function has been observed once more. The purpose of this feature is to allow usernames to function on WhatsApp as a substitute for phone numbers.
WhatsApp usernames
- The most recent WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.25.19 was found to include this feature. However, WABetaInfo states that beta testers are not able to access it.
- The most recent version of WhatsApp claims to have included the capability to look up users by username. This is not the same as the name that appears on WhatsApp at the moment.
- You can give yourself a distinctive username on WhatsApp so that people can discover you on the program. This removes the requirement that in order to connect on WhatsApp, you provide your phone number.
- You can now easily find your shared username by typing it into the search field and it will show up. After that, you can speak with them directly on WhatsApp.
Users of WhatsApp expect an additional degree of anonymity using usernames, particularly if they choose not to provide their personal phone numbers. Since the functionality is still being tested, it’s unclear exactly how the released final version will function. However, we expect that WhatsApp usernames will soon be made available to beta testers.
This functionality seems to be comparable to usernames on Telegram. You can also create a public username on Telegram, which other users can use to locate you within the service. In this manner, those who don’t have access to your phone number can still message you on Telegram. However, WhatsApp is supposed to allow users to manage who can message them, even with regard to usernames.
