Following the debut of iOS 17 last month, Apple has now published the first significant upgrade. Along with a number of enhancements and bug fixes, iOS 17.1 brings a significant resolution to the radiation problem with the iPhone 12. On all eligible iPhone models, including the iPhone XR, iOS 17.1 can be downloaded and installed.

iOS 17.1 update released: how to install

  • iOS 17.1 is now available for download and installation on all eligible devices. Install iOS 17.1 on your iPhone by navigating to Settings > General > Software Update.
  • Regarding the new features of iOS 17.1, a significant enhancement is the resolution of the radiation problem with the iPhone 12 in France. Sales of the iPhone 12 were prohibited by the French government after tests revealed that the device’s radiation levels were higher than allowed. Apple has already stated that it will address the issue by disabling a feature that affected the radiation output of the iPhone 12.
  • Regarding the new capabilities, iOS 17.1 adds the capacity to distribute files via AirDrop even in the event of a Wi-Fi outage. When two iPhones are exchanging data over AirDrop, the procedure will continue via cellular data even in the event of Wi-Fi connectivity being lost.
  • With iOS 17, Apple unveiled StandBy mode, a function that makes your iPhone an always-on display. Now that iOS 17.1 is available, you can disable StandBy mode after 20 seconds, never, or “Automatically,” which will disable the function when your iPhone is not in use or in a dimly lit area.
  • Apple Music now has a new “Favourites” option thanks to iOS 17.1. You may easily add music to your Favorites list with this tool. To accomplish this, tap the star button that shows up next to the song’s title. By pressing in the upper-right corner of the Apple Music app and choosing “Favorited,” you may also quickly access this list.

Along with iOS 17.1, Apple also published updates for watchOS 10.1 and iPadOS 17.1. On all devices that are compatible, you can download and install all three updates.
